Growing & Learning Together

Aims & Beliefs

At Highfield, the team is committed to promoting high quality learning through a genuine partnership with the child and parent.

We recognise that communication and language and emotional and social development are vital to a child’s development and learning. We believe in valuing and respecting each individual in a welcoming, inclusive, enabling environment.

We actively encourage a lifelong love of learning. Through our continued team development and our multi-agency partnerships, we promote deep understanding of the whole child.

“GROWING AND LEARNING TOGETHER”

AIMS:

To do this we want individuals to:

  • Develop healthy minds and bodies
  • Lead safe lives and make informed choices
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Participate and be involved
  • To become lifelong learners

We provide an environment where children and their families feel safe, secure and comfortable and with people around them, free from pressure, where they are given time and space to be themselves. We believe that by feeling valued and respected, we all develop the self-esteem to accept others and ourselves. To do this, we promote healthy foods, sleep and regular exercise.

We provide opportunities to develop new skills and understandings, the chance to explore and experiment within the environment. We build on what the child already knows, and aim to provide creative and challenging learning opportunities for discovery, exploration, problem-solving and self-expression, which help the children and the team develop a passion for learning.

We ensure each child feels special and included and has the right to be listened to and their opinion respected. We help each other to care for the environment and to know that each of us has a role and can make a difference in our community and in the wider world.

We support each individual child to gain the confidence to make the most of their abilities and to be aware of opportunities available to them.

The team always treat children with respect. Our whole team approach is fair and consistent. We understand that too many rules for young children can be frustrating and confusing. Instead, we only agree limits that are truly necessary.

The following are things we encourage in children because we care and want everyone to care.

The team encourages these positive things.

  • We play carefully with our toys and books. This helps us look after them.
  • We care about things around us. We also care about ourselves and others.
  • We keep our hands and our feet to ourselves so that we do-not hurt anyone.
  • Inside we walk as this helps to keep us safe.
  • Sometimes we need to share and take turns.
  • Inside, we talk so that everyone can listen and be heard
  • All children are encouraged to have a voice so that they can express their feelings and emotions.
