Safeguarding
Early Years @ Highfield is committed to providing a secure environment for all children, where they feel safe and are kept safe. All adults in our setting recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If we have any concerns about a child, it is our duty to take appropriate actions.
We believe that children have the right to be completely secure from both the fear and reality of abuse, including Prevent and online, and we are committed to protecting all the children in our care from harm.
Parents must understand that if staff or the Designated safeguarding lead are concerned about a child or situation, they have a duty under the 1989 Children Act to report these concerns to the appropriate agencies, including Multi Agency Referral Hub (MASH) and make a referral. The parent would be informed of any referral, unless we feel the child is at immediate harm.
The team is in close contact with the children on a daily basis. We see children regularly, talk and play with them. We are trained in safeguarding and Child Protection, including observing changes in the child’s behaviour, health or physical appearance and listening to children talk about their experiences, which may give us cause for concern. Occasionally, talking to parents can also cause concern. The Designated Safeguarding Lead may suggest that together we seek help from other agencies.
Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) - Natasha Trinder and Diane Armstrong
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads - Eleanor Wood, Emma Miles and Jo Cairns
The alternate safeguarding leads within Highfield are Jannice Simpson and Ruth Coleman. All alternates have the same level of training as the DSL.
